How
to Choose the Perfect Blinds
When we talk about
the style of the window treatments, we're also
talking about the choice of fabrics, colors that
add to the beauty and enjoyment of your room.
We know that because there
are so many different styles and colors to
choose from, shopping for new blinds may be
slightly overwhelming. Therefore, to help you,
we've listed several tips to help you shop for
your new blinds.
Determining the Proper Size:
You have to make sure that you purchase the
correct size and proper mounts for your windows.
If you have older window frames, they probably
are deeper and will be more suited for inside
mounts. New windows that are more modern are
usually shallower frames, and will be more
suited for outside mounts.
For two-inch blinds to hang flush inside your
window frame, then your window frames have to be
at least two inches deep. For outside mount
blinds, you want to ensure that your blind is
wide enough to cover your entire window opening.
How to properly measure your windows:
When measuring your windows, use a hard-edge
ruler or steel measuring tape. NEVER use a cloth
tape for you will not get an accurate
measurement. You want to measure every window
thoroughly. This means, horizontally at the top,
center, and bottom and vertically along both
sides as well as in the center. Next, you want
to measure diagonally, too. These measurements
will tell you if your windows are square.
Remember it is important to measure every
window.
If a window isn't square, you may want to
consider an "outside mount.? This is installing
the blind above the opening and can be done in
such a way that the headrail covers very little
of the trim. However, to minimize light leakage,
and maximize privacy, it is recommend that the
shade overlap the window opening by at least 2"
on both sides and at the bottom of the window.
Once the blind is installed, if it telescopes to
one side when it is raised, the window may not
be level. Several shades have an adjustable
bottom rail weight, which can be moved to
compensate for the window frame and prevent
telescoping.
