Use
Window Coverings for Privacy
When looking for
window coverings for privacy, you don't have to
ignore style.
Perhaps the only people
who don't look for privacy in window treatments
are those who live far away from prying
eyes----like on a deserted island. However, for
the rest of us, privacy can be a major issue.
When we first moved into our home, our bathroom
window looked directly into a heavily wooded
area, which stayed that way for many years until
the property sold. Now, our bathroom window
looks into our neighbor's treeless backyard.
Needless to say, I love my shades. When you have
a window, which looks directly into your
neighbor's home, onto a busy sidewalk, street
corner, or other busy area you need and want
privacy.
However, having your privacy doesn't mean you
have to forsake style. Below is a list of
options to consider:
- Consider window
treatments that provide complete opaque
coverings such as fabric or roller shades.
These generally cover the window completely.
- Curtains and
draperies that close will block off the view
of prying eyes.
- Pleated and non-sheer
cellular shades provide full glass coverage
and complete privacy. You can even purchase
several styles that have the ?top down?
feature, so that you can lower the upper
part of the shade, permitting in light while
blocking the view of those who pass by.
- Sheer curtains and
draperies provide somewhat of privacy during
the daytime, however at night they become
nearly transparent. If you want sheers, and
your privacy
at night too, then consider using shades
underneath, which will provide you with
privacy at night.
- All blinds and
shutters will provide you with nearly
complete privacy. However, if the slates are
tilted at a certain angles, it is possible
for the outside world to see into your home.
- Non-sheer fabric
cellular shades will provide you with a
certain amount of privacy. In addition, they
also provide insulation as an added benefit.
So you see, you can have
style and privacy too, all you need to do is
decide which window treatment is the best choice
for you.
